Welcome to Doc Bobs Jehovahs Witness Website
First of all, let me dispel a longstanding misconception - I am not really a doctor. Years ago, when I first got on the internet, I figured that I needed a "handle" to use here. Even more years ago, my nephew used to call me "Doctor Bob" after the character in the "Doctor's Hospital" sketch on "The Muppet Show." So, I figured that would be a good handle.
This site is the latest iteration of my site which started in late 1995. I started the site as a repository for my thoughts as I was in the process of ending 22 years as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. As I compiled and shared my thoughts on earlier versions of this site, I received - and still receive - a fair bit of email from active, exiting and ex-Witnesses who had many of the same thoughts that I did.
If you are one of Jehovah's Witnesses, please consider the contents of this site carefully. Yes, I am critical on this site of the teachings and practices of the leadership of Jehovah's Witnesses. But they have invited a critical look at themselves. Consider the following from the August 22, 1984 Awake! magazine. In response to a letter calling them to task for their criticism of the Pope, the "faithful slave" replied:
We surely were not trying to take cheap shots at the pope or the Catholic Church, nor were we criticizing Catholics. The Catholic Church occupies a very significant position in the world and claims to be the way of salvation for hundreds of millions of people. Any organization that assumes that position should be willing to submit to scrutiny and criticism. All who criticize have the obligation to be truthful in presenting the facts and fair and objective in assessing such. In both respects we try to live up to that obligation.—ED.
The Watchtower has set itself up as Gods channel of communication with mankind and has stated that one must be connected with it in order to be saved. They, therefore, should be as accountable and as subject to a critical examination of their teachings and practices as they feel the Catholic Church should.
Now please dont take me wrong, or immediately write me off as a raving apostate. For most of the years I was a Witness, I thoroughly loved it and enjoyed it. I was convinced that it was Jehovah's visible, spirit-directed organization. I learned a lot of good things as a JW. I learned a lot about the Bible, I learned to teach and to speak effectively in public - skills which certainly stand me in good stead today.
But as I served as a pioneer and as an elder, I began to realize things about the organization that were troublesome. I began to see that we were not raising up spiritual people, but organizational people. It also began to dawn on me that much of the training I was receiving as an elder had more to do with protecting the considerable assets of the Watchtower corporations than it did with helping my brothers and sisters.
For a while, I tried to teach around the things I realized were wrong. But, as time went on, I was left with less and less that I could teach with a clear conscience. At that point, I stepped down from being an elder. Then, over the next couple of years, I attended fewer and fewer meetings.
At this point, I have found that there is not only life after being a JW, but there is "abundant life" in Christ. While I was a Witness, I was sure that we had a spiritual paradise that people in Christendom could not appreciate. But since leaving Jehovah's Witnesses I have realized that it is not about religion, but its about relationship. I now enjoy a relationship with God that I could not have as a Jehovahs Witness. In fact, when I sent out letters that told my old Witness friends of my new relationship with God, the elders wanted me to face charges of apostasy. For the whole story, please read the letter that I wrote to my Witness friends at my letter.
I wish I could convey to my old Jehovahs Witness friends how wonderful that relationship is. I wish I could get across to them the shallowness of what we thought was so deep, the insignificance of what we thought was so profound. I wish I could help them see that the Holy Spirit is not confined to one organization headquartered in Brooklyn or Patterson, New York. I wish they could see how applicable Revelation 3:17 is to the Watchtower organization:
Because you say: "I am rich and have acquired riches and do not need anything at all," but you do not know you are miserable and pitiable and poor and blind and naked, ... ".
To those ends, the purpose of this site has evolved from just being a place for me to record my thoughts to the following:
To honor God
To reach out to Jehovah's Witnesses
To educate, equip and encourage Christians to witness to Jehovah's Witnesses
I have moved to my own domain and am using a new web host and the PHP-Nuke hosting software to make this a more dynamic, interactive site than previously. There are plenty of opportunities for you, the reader, to comment on what I have written here or to submit your own material. I invite you to take full advantage of them. If you find something on this site that is in error, please let me know. I will change it immediately.

LOSING THE FAITH TRUTH UNDER SCRUTINY
BY ROBIN JACKSON First Edition A5 (Paperback) 112 pages Perfect Bound Category: Non-Fiction About the book: Losing The Faith is the chronicle of a man’s journey through a religious organization that demands exclusive and unquestioning devotion of its followers. It explores the author’s journey from childhood into adulthood together with the doubts and conflicting teachings of the organization known as Jehovah’s Witnesses. These doubts and concerns eventually led him to investigate some of the teachings to ascertain if it is “The Truth”. The discoveries and cover-ups are recorded in this book and reveal the darkness and anguish felt by the author while uncovering the deception of an organization that claims to be the sole channel of communication between God and men. An inspiring and powerful read. "

This cult has destroyed the lives of both my mother and myself. I was raised to believe that Jehovah was the true GOD, little did I know of the actual truth. This Jim Jones-like cult had origins in the occult (Satanism), and they had numerous prophecies that they were looking for the fulfillment of. People in 1975 sold property, and devoted themselves full time to this cult under the impression that Armagheddon would shortly begin, only to find that we are still here, and this happened over and over, and over. They engage in child molestations, out right coverups, and they completely re-wrote the bible. I did research and found that a lot of stories in the bible is the same as ancient myths that I know were written long before the bible. I don't know why people can't see it for what it is. In almost every one of their articles, they talk about demons, such as what can bring you in contact with them, what they do to people, and how to handle it when they inevitably harass you. Harassment of demons is considered a test of Jehovah. I found out that these people are into Necromancy, Astrology, and Astral projection-they claim they recieve guidance from God's "angels" what ever they are. They write things in their "You can live forever in paradise on earth" book such as: What should you do if you hear voices?" Common sense would tell you at that point that you need psychiatric help They isolate you from the outside world by telling you that you can only associate with JW's. If you are really into them, and that's all you know, you can really become victimized.STAY AWAY!"

msaction writes "My husband and I were members for 40 years, my husband an elder for 15 years. We resigned in 1983. We lost our daughter to this cult for 10 years. When all effort failed to communicate with her, I decided to rejoin and get re-instated. My motive was solely based on the ability to communicate and show her their cult-like errors.
I wrote about my 2 year rescue story, and the exposing of her elder husband as a child molester, (my other daughter, and their daughter).

SparkyLeFer writes " Those Jehovah's Witnesses professing to be part of the anointed remnant had a marked influence upon me. For some reason, several choose to befriend and assist me; I felt privileged to be associated with "Christ's brothers." They were generous and gracious toward me, truly displaying what I perceived to be the fruitage of the spirit. "

Gentle Wind Project Lawsuit Dismissed
|
|
I have received news from Jim Bergin and Judy Garvey that the lawsuit that was filed against them by the Gentle Wind Project (GWP) in federal court has been dismissed. Jim and Judy are former members of GWP. After leaving the group, they put up a website. GWP took exception to some of the things that they wrote and sued them and several other people who have websites that have information on GWP. GWP filed the lawsuit in federal court in Portland Maine. GWP invoked the RICO statute in this lawsuit.
This decision was a huge success for Judy and Jim. But I think it was also very important for former Jehovah's Witnesses who have websites where they talk about their experience with the Watchtower. If you go to Jim and Judy's website you can find the text of the lawsuit that was filed against them. Read the suit and imagine what might happen if GWP had prevailed in this suit and if the Watchtower had filed a similar suit against all the former JWs who have websites.
Congratulations to Jim and Judy.

Here is a strange pairing of quotes from the Watchtower:
"The Vatican belittles Bible study by claiming it is the only organization authorized and qualified to interpret the Bible." (The Watchtower, 7/1/1943, p. 201.)
"We all need help to understand the Bible, and we cannot find the Scriptural guidance we need outside the 'faithful and discreet slave' organization." (The Watchtower, Feb. 15, 1981.)

Has the Watchtower Ever Lied?
|
|
As with so many articles here, all this started with a post to the JW Forum on AOL. A JW there wrote:
The Society has never lied to us (the learners, the readers). A mistake is different, very different than a deliberate lie. The scripture says that imposters will advance from bad to worse, misleading and being misled. This is not the case with the WT Society. Mistakes have been discerned, they have been corrected in the proper light.

Where are Jehovah's Witnesses to direct the interest of those they preach to? A search of Watchtower documents on the words "direct" and "interest" yielded the following. 'km' denotes the Watchtower document entitled "Our Kingdom Ministry". It is a monthly newsletter that is the basis for the Jehovah's Witness' Service Meeting.

1940 Kennebunk Maine Kingdom Hall Burning
|
|
On June 9, 1940 a mob torched the Kingdom Hall in Kennebunk Maine. Living just south of Kennebunk as I do, I had always heard that the mob torched the Hall because of the Witnesses' refusal to salute the flag. But there is a facet to the story that I had never heard before, and which the Watchtower has omitted from it's writings on the incident.
